LCM-8 and Singapore's Fast Craft Utility (FCU) have virtually same
external dimensions - 23m long, 6m wide. But how come the Singaporean
FCU's payload is only 18-ton, while the LCM-8 can carry an M60-class
MBT? What made this difference? Another notable difference is speed.
The FCU can propel itself in the water at speeds up to 20 knots by
waterjet. The LCM-8 can make at best 12 knots according to
globalsecurity.org.

Below are from the Singaporean Ministry of Defence and Singapore
Technologies Marine websites.

Fast Craft Utility (FCU)
- Introduced in 1994
- Holds four crew
- Larger than the FCEP, fast to respond and mainly for transporting
troops and lighter vehicles
- Can go into shallow waters
- Propelled by water jets, can go up to 20 knots and can carry 18
tonnes easily

23m 18-tonne Marine Truck
Principal Particulars
Length Overall : 23.00m
Breadth : 6.00m
Depth : 2.30m
Mean Draft : 0.80m maximum
Clear Deck Area : 77.00 m sq
Clear Width (at ramp entrance) : 4.18m

Maximum Speed (fully laden) : excess of 20 knots

Given the higher speed and smaller load (and the photos) the FCU is
almost certainly a planing hull, while the LCMs use displacement hulls.
That's generally the tradeoff.

You are a spammer of the worst sort, crawl into any hole
that doesnt actively reject you and die horribly.

This will be doing the world an inestimable service
and save us the cost of your burial.

You've pretty much answered it - one is slow and carries a lot of
stuff; the other is fast and carries not so much stuff. You can
generally do one or the other, but not both.
